Micromax Evok Mobile Review: In India, Micromax has recently launched its new Evok series, stating that it was targeted towards the younger professionals. The first smartphone launched in the series i.e. Micromax Evok is the budget device.
DESIGN and DISPLAY
Micromax Evok comes with 5.5-inch HD IPS display of 720/1280 pixels’ resolution and it is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The phone is powered by 1.4GHz octa-core processor and it is paired with 3GB of RAM and it runs Android 5.1 Lollipop. The basic hardware and the screen resolution are adequate considering the price tag, during our testing, the gaming experience was not that impressive. For testing out the Micromax Evok we played some graphically-intensive and heavy games, such as WWE Immortals and Injustice: Gods Among Us.
After just 10-15 minutes of the gameplay the device started heating up for almost all the games. As for the build quality, the device is lightweight. However, the plastic panel is not quite good and takes quite an effort to be pried off. The audio output turned out to be just average and the speakers are placed at the back. Micromax Evok has a removable battery of 3000mAh, that lasted us a whole day of the moderate use. The smartphone has dual SIM slots and a memory card slot that can take up microSD cards of up to 64GB. As the Micromax Evok is a budget smartphone so it seems that Micromax had to compromise a little with user interface.
Though as it is nearly the stock Android so it comes preloaded with lots of apps. But most of the apps are not that useful, like Micromax’s Around service, that curate’s location based information such as nearby restaurants, hotels and more.
PERFORMANCE and CAMERA
The new Micromax Evok comes with a rear camera of 13MP and front-facing camera of 5MP, that are quite impressive for the price. The camera app comes with various settings, shooting modes that will let tou click photos as per according to your preference and in-built filters. The only drawback with the camera is that it does not focus properly when you will take pictures after zooming in.
The smartphone worked just fine with a few glitches here and there in terms of performance. Multitasking is not so good, so if you are juggling between internet browsing or gaming or video streaming than you might freeze for second or two. The device comes with regular USB Type-C charger and earphones. During our testing the earphones sounded pretty good. The connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS, 4G VoLTE and Bluetooth. Overall the call quality was good as well and even in the areas with the low signal reception.
VERDICT
For a quite while Micromax has enjoyed its status as one of the India’s most popular smartphone brands. But now it is the time for the company to up its games, especially when given the onslaught of and overall it performs well, some other brands like Lenovo, Xiaomi and Asus already better competing devices.
