Ringing Bells; the Freedom 251 maker to Start Selling Products via Amazon India

Noida-based Ringing Bells, a company that came to the spotlight with the launch of the 'world's cheapest smartphone' - the Freedom 251, on Friday announced its products will be available on Amazon India, starting Saturday. The day also happens to be the start of the Amazon Great Indian Sale.

In an emailed statement, Ringing Bells detailed which products will be available via the e-commerce site, and notably, the list does not include the Freedom 251.

Ringing Bells says the Freedom LED TV series will be made available on Amazon India, alongside select smartphones, feature phones, as well as power banks.

Detailing which televisions in the Freedom LED TV will be available, Ringing Bells said the Freedom Junior (24-inch), Freedom Young (32-inch), and Freedom Mega (40-inch) will go on sale on Amazon India from Saturday, priced in the range of Rs. 8,999 to Rs. 19,999.

Ringing Bells also said its features phones, Hit, King, and Raja, will be available on Amazon India, priced in the range of Rs. 699 to Rs. 1,099. The company at this point will also be making a single smartphone available, the Elegant, priced at Rs. 3,999. Finally, a 4000mAh power bank from the company will also be sold - the RB Power - at Rs. 399.

Speaking on the occasion, a Ringing Bells spokesperson said, "After introducing loyalty card programme last month, we have received encouraging response from our customers. As most of the buyers prefer online buying rather than visiting the retail outlets especially for items like mobile phones and TVs. Listing our products on Amazon India will help us in expanding our footholds across the country that we were trying to do it through our conventional network".

The company had earlier roped in Bollywood actress Sunny Leone for a Selfie Contest to promote its recently announced loyalty card programme, which offers discounts 5% to 15% on purchase of Ringing Bells products with cards of Rs 500 to Rs 2,000.

Tinder's New Boost Feature Helps You Skip the Line, Puts You on Top of the Pack

Tinder, the popular dating app has introduced a new feature called Boost. With the aim of making it easier to find a match, the Boost feature helps you 'put yourself first' in line, skipping it altogether. The feature is paid in the app and is being tested in Australia for now - however, it's unclear just how much the feature costs. If all goes well, the company plans to push the feature worldwide soon.

Talking about Boost, Tinder on its blog said that it will put you on top of the deck for a short period - 30 minutes - boosting your chances to get a right swipe. The company says that boosting can get you up to 10x more profile views, and in fact, after a boosting session also serves up statistics of how many more views you got.

Tinder says Boost can only be activated while swiping in the normal Tinder mode. If you are a Tinder Plus user, you get one free Boost every week. If you don't have Tinder Plus and want more Boost, you can buy it anytime you want. It is quite similar to Tinder's Super Likes feature that also costs you some money, again serving the purpose to be noticed on the app.

If you're desperately single and don't want to loosen your pocket a bit for that sake, Tinder has advised you to be cautious while putting all your time in vain uselessly finding a match. It's quite pragmatic when you are in a metro city with a heap of Tinder matches and want yourself to be on the top of the deck so that you're noticed easily.

Tinder last week partnered Spotify to introduce music preferences in the app to not only let you "show your favourite artists and music preferences, but also to pick the anthem that defines you, listen to other people's anthems and maybe make a little music with someone new."

The company says the new processors can be utilised in a number of devices including digital signage, set-top boxes, medical imaging, point of sale systems, industrial robotics, and other IoT-related applications.

Qualcomm confirms that the Snapdragon 600E and 410E will be made available globally by third party distributors, initially through Arrow Electronics. Both the new Snapdragon 600E and 410E processors have been built from the foundation of the Snapdragon 600 and 410 processors. The company believes that being the first Snapdragon processors that will be available by distributors will make them "accessible in a variety of quantities to manufacturers of all sizes for embedded computing and IoT products."

As for specifications, the Snapdragon 600E features a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Krait 300 coupled with Qualcomm Adreno 320 GPU and Qualcomm Hexagon DSP which is said to be the "ideal processor" for advanced systems with 3D graphics. It supports integrated Bluetooth 4.0/LE (and 3.x), Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, and GPS. It also supports expandable storage depending on a variety of use cases such as SATA, SD3.0, DDR memory, and eMMC storage among others.

The Snapdragon 410E features a 1.2GHz quad-core CPU coupled with an Adreno 306 GPU and Hexagon DSP. It supports Bluetooth 4.1/LE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, and GPS.

"Snapdragon is a powerful and versatile processor with many potential applications in a wide variety of IoT applications and we can now offer this technology to a much wider range of customers with the additional benefit of long-term support and availability. The Snapdragon 600E and 410E bring together some of our best connectivity and compute technologies to meet the needs for a large range of embedded and IoT applications," Raj Talluri, Senior Vice President, Product Management, Qualcomm Technologies said.

Google Play Music Service Finally Comes to India, but the Subscription Service is Missing.

The wait is finally over for the users in India waiting for Google has introduced its Play Music service in India. Google has quietly opened its Play Music store in India, with songs and albums now available for purchase. The Play Music was rumored to launch back in July but it didn't happen back then. Its worth noting, the subscription service - known as Google Play Music All Access - is not yet available in the country.

The news comes after the Google for India's event on Tuesday where the company launched a bunch of apps and new features suited for the Indian users. However, there is no official announcement by Google India to add to the same on its blog. With the new Play Music service, Google will enter the digital music market in India to compete with the likes of Apple's iTunes and Airtel's Wynk Music.

Google Play Music doesn't let you stream music as of now, with no Google Play All Access subscription plan, no radio, and podcasts services in India. You can only buy songs and albums individually on the app. With no support for streaming, Google may fall behind Apple Music, Saavn, and Gaana that currently occupy the streaming market in India.

Detailing on the pricing, Google Play Music hosts individual songs of the genres like Bollywood, regional, Indian Pop, and International starting Rs. 15 per song, while an entire album costs within the Rs. 100 - Rs. 200 range. You can preview the tracks and pay for them as per your suitability using your debit/ credit card, or with Google Play cards.

The Web version of Play Music is also live with a support for Google Chrome extension for desktops in case users want a player app.

Interestingly, the Play Music app on iOS didn't let us successfully sign into the app, suggesting the service might roll out on iOS platform later.

Users can also upload music via Google Play Music on the web - users will be required to download the Music Manager app, which then allows you to upload files from your computer, or playlists via iTunes and the Windows Media player. Users will then be able to listen to the uploaded music anywhere once they sign into the Google Play Music service, whether on Android or the Web.

#MINECON2016: Minecraft announces Cross-Platform Play

With Minecon 2016 (an annual convention for all things Minecraft) over, Mojang announced that the game will have full cross-play support between consoles, PC, and mobiles. What this means is, you could play with friends even if you're on different platforms.

But, there's a catch. In order to do this you'll need to be subscribed to Minecraft Realms, which is the company's paid subscription service. Currently the official site lists Minecraft Realms starting from $3.99 for two friends and $7.99 for 10. It hasn't been updated yet to reflect this announcement just yet.

Furthermore, we're clueless as to if platform holders like Sony would agree to this. Reason being, Rocket League which allows for cross-platform play cannot do so until Sony agrees.

With a movie in the works, VR support, mod support for a plethora of devices, and selling around 10,000 copies a day, it seems like the hype around Minecraft is far from over.

It still remains popular seven years after its initial release, with children's and adults alike. The average Minecraft player is between the ages of 28 and 29, according to Microsoft, and women constitute 40 percent of the playing demographic.

It has sold 73 million units in total, and stands third behind Tetris and Wii Sports in the all-time list for best-selling video games. Microsoft bought the game's intellectual property and the studio behind it - Mojang - in 2014 for $2.5 billion (roughly Rs. 15,375 crores). Part of the game's appeal has been the use of extensive third-party mods which allow players to customise it as they wish, or build anything from their dreams.

Moto Z to launch in India on 4 October

Motorola recently announced the budget friendly Moto E3 Power for its Indian consumers and now it is all set to launch its flagship smartphone. The Moto Z will be officially making its way on 4 October in India as the company has sent out invites confirming the launch day.

The company's first ever modular smartphone made its debut at the Lenovo Tech World conference in June earlier this year. The smartphone currently has three variants; the Moto Z, Moto Z Force and Moto Z Play, but there is no confirmation if Moto will launch all three of them.

The main attraction of the Moto Z lineup is the 16 magnetic connector pins at the back where one can simply snap on 'Moto Mods'. These Moto Mods are modules which add or enhance the capability of the smartphone. Some of them include battery packs, a JBL speaker, a Pico projector and a high-end Hasselblad camera. The mods are also expected to launch with the smartphone.

As far as the specs of the smartphones are concerned, the Moto Z features a 5.5-inch QHD (2560×1440) AMOLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with 4GB RAM, 64GB of internal memory which is further expandable via microSD card, 4G LTE connectivity, a fingerprint scanner. In the camera department you get a 13MP unit at the back with with an f/1.8 aperture, laser autofocus, OIS and dual LED flash while on the front there is 5MP camera. Running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow the battery is rated at 2,600 mAh battery. Oh, and you don’t get a 3.5mm audio jack, so audio is routed via the USB Type-C port.

The Moto Z Force is pretty much similar in looks and design, it is slightly bulky and offers the shatter-shield protection just like the Moto X Force. Other differences include a larger 3.500mAh battery and a better 23MP camera on the back.

On the other hand, the Moto Z Play is a more nimble version and features a 5.5-inch display with a full HD resolution (1920×1080 pixels), a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor with 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage, a 16MP primary camera with dual-LED flash and a 3,510mAh battery.

FIFA 17 Street Date Broken in the UAE; India Release Soon

FIFA 17 has seen an early release in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Several retailers in the country have posted pictures of stock today.

A photo posted by plz comments in english (@sonic_games_uae) on

Thanks to this several Indian retailers are expected to bring in copies of the game as early as Monday, September 26 at a price not too dissimilar to Rs. 3,999 (your mileage will vary from store to store) for which it is available for pre-order on Amazon India.

For the record, FIFA 17 is only officially available at Amazon India from September 29 - the actual release date of the game, the reasons for which we’ve covered in-depth here. This is par for the course considering FIFA 16 and FIFA 15 saw independent game stores bringing in the game earlier than EA’s own partners in the country.

We've seen this happen with The Division, Far Cry Primal and Street Fighter V, Indian merchants with contacts in the UAE bringing in copies through parallel import channels. Prior to this games like Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, The Order: 1886, and Just Cause 3 were some big name titles that found themselves available locally prior to release - all of which were stock meant for the Middle East.
While three days might not seem much for many a casual gamer, for FIFA fans it gives them the headstart in mastering FIFA 17's many nuances, and there are plenty.

For what it's worth, its also said that FIFA 17 is to be a step down from last year's game. While there's fun to be had in FIFA 17, it's nowhere close to what it should be. Some fundamental changes to the moment to moment gameplay are detrimental to the overall experience and The Journey mode falls flat. Rather, it’s padded in all the wrong places. FIFA 17 isn’t the best effort from EA but it isn’t the worst either. There is a better football game this year, and it isn’t from EA.

Snapchat rebrands itself as Snap Inc; Also launches a new line of sunglass-based camera, Spectacles.

Snapchat has rebranded itself as Snap Inc. The announcement was made to differentiate the company from its products. Snapchat, the photo-messaging app, continues to be called Snapchat. Snap also announced Spectacles, a new line of sunglass-based recording device. These are sunglasses with integrated cameras, with a button that takes Memories.
Spectacles is a "totally new type of camera" because it records videos from "the human perspective." The camera in Spectacles has a 115-degree field of view, which is wider than that of a normal smartphone camera, located on the frames near the left eye.

"Imagine one of your favorite memories. What if you could go back and see that memory the way you experienced it? That's why we built Spectacles," the company said in a blog post.

A button is to be tapped to take a 10 second video, that is instantly transmitted wirelessly to Snapchat, where it appears as a Memory. The specs charge in their charging case, and can be used for a whole day on a single charge. Snap claims the Spectacles use one of the smallest wireless video cameras in the world.

When Snaps are being taken, an LED light ring glows to show that a video is being recorded. The camera has a field of view of a hundred and fifteen degrees. They are available in blue, red and black, with highlights in the iconic Snapchat yellow. The glasses work only with Snapchat, and are expected to land in the market soon. Snap Inc has also indicated that they will be developing more products in the future.
Snapchat had indicated its intentions of getting into hardware when it joined the Bluetooth Special Interest Group, an industry body that maintains the wireless Bluetooth standard. There were speculations that Snapchat would be creating an Augmented Reality Headset.

Spectacles will cost $130, and will be available in limited quantities later in the fall. There will be three options: black, blue and coral.

Hangouts 13.0 for Android Released With Chrome Custom Tabs Support

Google wants you to know that even though it has released text-messaging app Allo and video-calling app Duo, it has not forgotten Hangouts. This is why the search giant has released version 13.0 update for Hangouts, which brings support for Chrome Custom Tabs to the app on Android.

On the updated version of the app, you will find the option 'Browse in Hangouts' in the settings and by default it comes enabled. You also get the option to open the page in Chrome.

In the settings menu, at the top, there sits a warning to remind users that 'Conversation merging is no longer available', as pointed out by 9to5Google. Google removed 'merged conversations', which showed Hangouts messages and SMS messages from the same user in a single conversation, with its version 11.0 update of the Hangouts app on Android.

"Merged conversations used to let you see your Hangouts messages and text messages in the same conversation. We have decided to remove it, because it caused user confusion and had low usage," Google said regarding the removal of merged conversations.

Google has clarified that it wants Hangouts to be focused on businesses and simpler apps Allo and Duo to be consumer-centric.

The search giant recently announced that Hangouts On Air will move from Google+ to YouTube Live. In its note, the company said, "Events cannot be scheduled on Google+ after September 12 and you will need to move existing events scheduled to happen after September 12 to YouTube Live."

LinkedIn Learning Training Platform Launched; News Feeds Get More Personalised

LinkedIn wants to become more useful to workers by adding personalized news feeds, helpful messaging "bots" and recommendations for online training courses, as the professional networking service strives to be more than just a tool for job-hunting.

The new services will arrive just as LinkedIn itself gains a new boss, Microsoft, which is paying $26 billion to acquire the Silicon Valley company later this year.

LinkedIn said the new features, which it showed off to reporters Thursday, were in the works before the Microsoft takeover was announced in June. But LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner said his company hopes to incorporate some of Microsoft's technology as it builds more things like conversational "chat bots," or software that can carry on limited conversations, answer questions and perform tasks like making reservations.

Chatbots are a hot new feature in the consumer tech world, where companies like Facebook, Apple and Google are already racing to offer useful services based on artificial intelligence. As a first step, LinkedIn says it will soon introduce a bot that could help someone schedule a meeting with another LinkedIn user, by comparing calendars and suggesting a convenient time and meeting place.

The new bot will be part of an online messaging service that LinkedIn is gradually expanding to make it easier for users to communicate without opening a new screen or switching to email.

LinkedIn is also adding more personalized features to its news feed, where members can see articles and announcements posted by their professional contacts. A new "Interest Feed" will offer a collection of articles, posts and opinion pieces on major news events or current issues.

While many people already turn to Facebook, Twitter or individual news sites for similar updates, LinkedIn managers suggest their feeds will be more tailored to each user's professional interests, by a combination of human editors and computer algorithms. Similarly, LinkedIn says it's begun using the online training resources of its Lynda.com educational subsidiary to make personalized recommendations for online courses that augment each user's current skills or career interests - the platform is LinkedIn Learning.

The new features are the latest additions LinkedIn has made to its core service in recent years - for example, by inviting prominent people and ordinary members to write their own articles or essays for the site.

LinkedIn Corp. makes most of its money from fees that job recruiters pay to use its database of more than 450 million members worldwide. But it wants to keep members engaged so they check in regularly and keep their profiles updated. Weiner and other executives say they want to make the site useful for more than just job-hunting.

The idea is to "help members be more productive and successful in what they're trying to do," said LinkedIn vice president Ryan Roslansky in an interview.

LinkedIn has measured an increase in routine visits to its website and mobile apps over the last year, Roslansky said, even after the company cut back on the volume of email notifications that it sends to members. It did so, he acknowledged, after members complained they were getting too many emails.

Microsoft Corp., meanwhile, wants to augment its own workplace software with LinkedIn's stockpile of information about its members' job histories and professional contacts. It may combine LinkedIn's data, for example, with online programs that Microsoft sells to businesses for managing sales, hiring and other back-office functions.

Weiner, who is expected to continue running LinkedIn as a semi-independent subsidiary of Microsoft, said the two companies are working on ways to integrate some services. But he said he wasn't ready to disclose more details.

Edward Snowden criticises Google Allo due to lack of privacy

Ex- CIA employee and whistle-blower, Edward Snowden warned people about the lack of privacy on Google's recently launched messaging app Allo, and advised them not to use it.

Allo launched yesterday, as the first platform to be integrated with Google's new intelligent agent, Google Assistant. Google had announced at the I/O conference earlier this year that Allo would not be saving messages on its own servers, but that is not the case with the final application.

The reason for saving the communications in Google servers is apparently to improve Google Assistant, which is a win for machine learning, but a loss for privacy. However, upon request, Google can make the data available to law enforcement agencies. These concerns over security prompted Snowden to tweet out a warning against using the newly launched app.

He defined it as "A Google app that records every message you ever send and makes it available to police upon request." He further went ahead and suggested using apps such as Signal for communication purposes instead.

The danger that Snowden is trying to point out here is that while Google may be officially claiming to log the chats to improve its own Artificial Intelligence offerings, the choice was made knowing that the private communications would be made available to law enforcement agencies upon request. Allo works as a surrogate mass surveillance system, because Google simply hands over user data when enforcement agencies request it.

Snowden had previously asked for the boycott of Allo in May. He said that the decision taken by Google to disable end-to-end encryption by default in Allo was 'dangerous' and added "Avoid it for now."

It is worth noting that the app still has an incognito mode, which allows end-to-end encryption on messages sent through the app. The messages sent through incognito are not stored by the company. There is also a timer that allows destruction of sent messages in as little as five seconds. A messaging client such as WhatsApp that by default does not save messages in its own servers is a more secure option, as there is no data saved to comply with requests by law enforcement agencies.

The LeEco Le Pro 3 is official

LeEco has officially unveiled the Le Pro 3 in China. In terms of specs, it's a beast of a phone with top of the line hardware and a massive battery. It’s not as much of a beast as we expected, however.

LeEco's Le Pro 3 boasts of a 5.5-inch FHD display with 2.5D glass and a Snapdragon 821 SoC backed by up to 6GB of RAM (though we were expecting 8GB) under the hood. The rear camera is a 16MP, f/2.0 unit with PDAF and dual-LED flash; it can also record 4K video at 30fps. The front camera is an 8MP unit with an f/2.2 aperture and is capable of recording at 1080p.

The phone runs eUI 5.8, which is a skin on top of Android 6.0 (we expected Nougat). As with the Le 2 and Le Max 2, LeEco dumps the 3.5mm headphone jack the in favour of CDLA (digital audio over USB Type-C).
You get the usual array of sensors in the form of a fingerprint reader, accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, etc. The usual connectivity options of Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, GPS, etc., are also present. All of this draws juice from a 4,070 mAh battery.

The phone will be available in Rose Gold, Gold, Silver and Gray in the following configurations:

  • 4GB RAM, 32GB storage: 1799 Yuan (around Rs 18,000)
  • 6GB RAM, 64GB storage: 1999 Yuan (around Rs 20,000)
  • 4GB RAM, 32GB storage special edition: 2499 Yuan (around Rs 25,100)
  • 6GB RAM, 128GB storage special edition: 2999 Yuan (around Rs 30,100)
The special edition models are identical to the regular models in terms of hardware and design (except for storage options). They're more expensive because they include a subscription to LeEco’s video service.

The devices are yet to launch in India.

Spotify and Tinder Swipe Right: Tinder Hooks Up with Spotify to Let You Find Your Musical Match

Tinder users can now show off just how great their taste in music is by hooking their Spotify account up to their profile. Tinder and Spotify announced a partnership this morning to make the integration happen, letting people explore their choice of top artists, as well as a track they designate as their life "Anthem".

Spotify partnered with Bumble to introduce basically this exact same feature back in June. On Tinder, however, it's arriving with one twist: everyone, including people without a Spotify account, will
be able to highlight one song they love right on their profile.

The "Anthem" is the basically background track for your life, or a piece of music that defines you as a person. The anthems can be changed. All Tinder users can add an anthem to their profiles using Spotify, whether or not they have a linked Spotify account. Users can search through the Spotify database, and select a track to be used as an anthem on their Tinder profiles.

The option to link to a Spotify profile is available in the account settings menu. The feature is in the process of rolling out to all 59 markets where Spotify is available.

Thanks to the new feature, you'll now be judged not just on your looks and wierd profile one liners, but also on how 'AMAZING' your tunes are.
