iPhone 7 may Launch in the Week of September 12: Report

Apple traditionally holds its iPhone launch event in September every year, but there is no official announcement on the iPhone 7 event date yet. However, a fresh leak now points at a tentative launch time frame. The iPhone 7 may be launched in the third week of September, specifically in the week of September 12.

This time-frame comes from tipster Evan Blass, who is noted for his accuracy when it comes to leaks. Last year, Apple launched the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus on September 9, however it came to India a month later. The same pattern is also expected this year.

The iPhone 7 was expected to launch in three variants - iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and a new iPhone 7 Pro version. However, new leaks hint that Apple may just stick to two variants this year. There is also expected to be a new base storage variant - 32GB. The probable storage offerings are going to be shuffled to 32GB, 128GB, and a possible new 256GB variant.

Apple may also introduce a new dual camera setup in its large iPhone 7 Plus variant. There is also going to be the addition of the Smart Connector at the back, again exclusive to the large variant only. To accommodate all this new hardware, the iPhone 7 Plus may get a bump to 3GB RAM.

The variants are expected to sport slightly bigger batteries, and the new Apple A10 processor for faster performance. The Home Button is expected to perform multiple functions, and be Force Touch enabled. Because of the new chip (and if the rumoured death of 3.5mm audio jack is true), the iPhone 7 is also expected to be at least 1mm slimmer than its predecessor.

There's also a lot of chatter about the 3.5mm audio jack. Conflicting reports on the removal of the audio output make it difficult to really nail a presumptive conclusion on whether it will be included this year or not. There's also expected to be a new Space Black colour variant with this year's launch.

iPhone 7 Spotted in Video; Apple A10 Chip Hits Geekbench: Reports

Apple has been subjected to a host of leaks surrounding its upcoming iPhone 7, and the latest information is about its rumored A10 chip. Additionally, there is also a video leak showing the back and the bottom of the smartphone.

Beginning with the video, it was spotted first on Weibo (via Techtastic.nl), and gives a very clear look at all the changes on the iPhone 7. The antenna bands are seen shifted to the edges, and the protective camera ring surrounding the lens can be noticed clearly too. The bottom of the device shows two speaker grilles on both the sides of the Lightning port, and there is no sign of the 3.5mm audio jack. This pretty much confirms that the new audio input on the iPhone 7 will have to be either from the Lightning port, or through a wireless Bluetooth device.

A separate leak through Geekbench (via Techtastic) gives more details on the anticipated Apple A10 chipset. It seems that the performance score of the A10 is approximately 18 percent higher than the A9 processor seen on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. Furthermore, it dons a similar dual-core chip with single core performance seen on its predecessor. The performance score is no doubt mighty, but not as significant as one would expect. Notably, the score lift from A8 to A9 was about 50 percent.

The A10 chip is expected to be built in a new fan out method that will reduce the size of the processor making room for battery life and a possible slimmer smartphone. The iPhone 7 is expected to come with a 1960mAh battery, a slight jump from the 1750mAh battery seen on the iPhone 6s.

The iPhone 7 is expected to offer new storage options, come with a Force Touch Home Button, and possibly be water resistant. The large iPhone 7 Plus is expected to see a bump to 3GB RAM to accommodate the dual camera setup and Smart Connector at the back.

iPhone 7 Price, Larger 1960mAh Battery, and Lightning EarPods Tipped

Apple's next iPhone offering is supposed to come packed with new hardware and minimal design changes. The latest information tips at a possible bump in battery life, while leaked images of Lightning-powered EarPods tip the anticipated demise of the 3.5mm headphone jack. A separate leak also tips the prices of the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and iPhone 7 Pro.

A leak from tipster Onleaks indicates that Apple is also increasing the battery life to 1960mAh in the iPhone 7. Notably, the iPhone 6s had a 1715mAh battery. This is probably done to accommodate all the new hardware, mainly the new A10 processor that is expected to be more powerful than its predecessor. In any case, it doesn't seem like a sufficiently major upgrade to ward off those battery woes. One of the most painful problems an iPhone user faces is poor battery life, and looks like Apple isn't making significant upgrades to solve it yet.

The images, sourced out of Weibo (via 9to5Mac), show Lightning-powered EarPods in high resolution from all angles. If real, the images tip that Apple is indeed ditching the 3.5mm headphone jack, and asking users to either switch to Bluetooth earphones for audio support, or make do with these new EarPods that will possibly be bundled with the iPhone 7. Another implication of the removal of the headphone jack would be Cupertino giant is looking to add water resistance to the smartphone. Earlier, a leak also pointed to a possibility that Apple may just bundle the regular 3.5mm EarPods with an additional 3.5mm-to-Lightning adapter alongside for users to make the switch.

As for the pricing leak, once again through Weibo (via Digit), the 32GB variant of the iPhone 7 is said to be priced at CNY 5,288 (roughly Rs. 52,900), the 64GB variant at CNY 6,088 (roughly Rs. 60,900), and the 256GB at CNY 7,088 (roughly Rs. 70,900). The iPhone 7 Plus is expected to be priced at CNY 6,088 (roughly Rs. 60,900) for the 32GB variant, CNY 6,888 (roughly Rs. 68,900) for the 128GB variant, and CNY 7,888 (roughly Rs. 78,900) for the256GB variant. The iPhone 7 Pro is expected to be priced at CNY 7,088 (roughly Rs. 70,900) for the 32GB variant, while the 128GB variant is said to cost CNY 7,888 (roughly Rs. 78,900), and the 256GB variant is expected to come for CNY 8,882 (roughly Rs. 88,900).

The iPhone 7 is expected to shift the antenna bands to the edges, and sport a Force Touch Home button. The company will introduce a dual camera setup for the large iPhone 7 Plus variant, alongside a smart connector at the back. There is also expected to be three variants of the iPhone this year - iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and iPhone 7 Pro. Furthermore, Apple is expected to offer new storage options namely - 32GB, 128GB, and 256GB.
