Razer Unveils New In-room Projection System and Project Valerie Laptop With Three 4K Displays at CES 2017

Razer is showcasing its highly distinctive concept laptop Project Valerie at the on-going CES 2017, which features not one, but 17.3-inch 4K IGZO displays powered by Nvidia's G-Sync technology for wider viewing angles as well as smoother frame rates. The company also went on to reveal its "total immersion gaming" projection system Project Ariana.

If the fact that Razer's concept laptop features three 17.3-inch high-resolution displays doesn't hinder you, the company has even claimed that it offers 100% Adobe RGB color accuracy. The company says that it offers "the greatest amount of screen real estate ever assembled in a single computer." The concept laptop features GTX 1080 GPU, just like the Razer Blade Pro laptop.

The laptop is housed in a CNC unibody aluminium chassis, measuring 1.5-inches thick and weighing nothing more than 5.4kg. "Each display mechanically slides out of the side of the main screen and adjusts into place, making it easy for users to deploy. With integrated multi-monitor support, users will no longer have to deal with the cable clutter from traditional desktop setups. The result is a clean gaming and working environment that's just as easy to maintain," the company said in its press release.

Razer hasn't shared the specific details about the hardware present on the concept laptop, but the company said that it exceeds the minimum hardware requirements for VR on the HTC Vive or the Oculus Rift VR headsets. Project Valerie is the second Razer laptop to have Razer's "Ultra-Low-Profile Mechanical switches" as well.

"Multi-monitor desktop setups are becoming more necessary for professionals, creators, and gamers," Min-Liang Tan, co-founder and CEO, Razer quoted in company's release. "For the first time, we've engineered a solution that users can take with them. Project Valerie promises all of the functionality of three screens and none of the hassle," he added.

Razer also unveiled its Project Ariana projection system, a high-definition video projector that makes use of an ultra-wide fisheye lens and advanced processing capabilities to extend the gaming experience into an entire room, the company said. "The system adapts the projection of in-game elements to the dimensions and features of the physical environment. A pair of 3D depth sensing cameras together with proprietary calibration software automatically calibrates itself to detect environmental factors such as furniture and room lighting, to provide the perfect display for any room," the company said in the release.

Razer further announced that its lighting technology, Razer Chroma, will now also be available to third-party partners. It will be interesting to see how the future of gaming is shaped going forward by the new technologies the company has introduced at CES 2017.

Asus HiveSpot, HiveDot Mesh Wi-Fi Routers Launched at CES 2017

Asus announced a set of multi-unit wireless routers, HiveSpot and HiveDot, at CES 2017. The HiveSpot is a tri-band AC2134 router while the HiveDot is a dual-band AC1300 router with comparatively lower speeds. These mesh wireless routers can primarily be used to assure that there is no signal loss in any part of your home or office.

At least three nodes of either HiveSpot or HiveDot (up to five nodes are possible) are required for a system to be set up and any one of the nodes can be configured to be the router device and connected to your Gigabit LAN port, while the others are slave nodes. In the case users already have a router, they can opt to connect the master device to the existing router.

The HiveSpot mesh wireless router comes with seven smart antennas and apart from 802.11ac 5GHz and 2.4GHz networks, it also features a 5GHz band that provides an 867Mbps connection between its nodes.

The new mesh wireless routers from Asus make use of company's "AiRadar" beamforming tech to point wireless signals towards the devices using them. Each system is capable of supporting up to five separate nodes but it has not been made clear if users can use a combination of HiveSpot and HiveDot nodes for their setup. The company has not announced the pricing of the routers either.

Setting up and installation of the routers can be done through the Asus Hive mobile app. Further, there is a 'Smart Family Insights' feature that provides parental controls for monitoring and restricting web access.

Fasetto Link, a Wireless 2TB SSD Launched at CES 2017

A US-based startup called Fasetto showed off Link - an ultraportable SSD external drive that’s small enough to fit into a jeans pocket at CES this year. The Link which is available in three sizes - 256GB, 512GB, and 2TB - uses Wi-Fi to wirelessly connect with smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other supported gadgets.

Measuring 2 inch x 2 inch, and weighing a little over 100 grams, the device is MIL-STD 810G certified for ruggedness and an IP68 certified for water resistance. The Link comes along with a software that lets you access your files and seamlessly backs up content from your devices. It also allows you to grant permission for guests to view specific content.

It can connect up to 30 devices at once, a whopping 15 devices can stream content together, using dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi. The internal battery can power the device for up to 5 hours of streaming on connected devices. Using a magnetically attachable external battery, it can go on for up to 8 hours. This battery is available separately. It supports quick charging through the USB Type-C port at the back but is said to charge up the 1300mAh battery in about 75 minutes (which isn't actually fast considering smartphones with far bigger batteries charge in about the same time). Speaking of other accessories, there's also one that makes the Link connect to 4G networks.

The Link starts at $349 (roughly Rs. 23,700) for the 256GB version, $499 (roughly Rs. 34,000) for the 512GB one, and a pricey $1,149 (roughly Rs. 78,000) for the 2TB version. It’s available for preorder on Fasetto’s website and the shipping date is estimated to be April 2017.

Lenovo Legion Gaming Laptops, Lenovo VR Headset Unveiled Ahead of CES 2017

At CES 2017, Lenovo introduced a sub-brand called Lenovo Legion dedicated only to gaming PCs and launched two new laptops made with the feedback received from the gaming community. To further its gaming efforts, Lenovo also unveiled its first ever VR headset that intends to work with the Windows Holographic program as well.

The Lenovo Legion laptops are targeted mainly at gamers, and they look to offer good graphics performance, powerful processors, and efficient cooling systems. The first two laptops to flag off the series include the Lenovo Legion Y720 and Legion Y520.

Let's talk about the Lenovo Legion Y720 laptop first! The Legion Y720 can be powered with up to seventh generation Intel Core i7 processors and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 with 6GB of GDDR5 video RAM, making it VR compatible as well.

The laptop sports a 15.6-inch UHD (3840x2160 pixels) or full-HD (1920x1080 pixels) IPS display with anti-glare. It is said to be the world's first laptop to come with Dolby Atmos technology for superior audio quality. The laptop offers support for the Xbox One wireless controller and comes with an optimized thermal cooling system for keeping the laptop in cool even during intense game fights.

The Lenovo Legion Y720 laptop offers up to 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and you can customize the storage with 128GB, 256GB, 512GB of SSD, or 1TB, 2TB of HDD storage. Lenovo claims that the laptop offers five hours of battery life and weighs 3.2kgs. Connectivity options include the fast Thunderbolt 3 port.

Then comes the Lenovo Legion Y520 laptop. This laptop features a 15.6-inch full-HD (1920x1080 pixels) IPS display along with Anti-glare. It is also powered by up to seventh generation Intel Core i7 processors and up to a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics card. It offers the same storage and memory configurations as the Y720. The laptop comes with Harman speakers for good audio output and weighs only 2.4kg. Both the Legion Y720 and the Legion Y520 come with backlit keyboards for ease in gaming at night. While the Lenovo Legion Y520 laptop starts at $899.99 (roughly Rs. 61,500) and will be available sometime in February, the Lenovo Legion Y720 laptop starts at $1,399.99 (roughly Rs. 95,700) and will be available sometime in April.

Along with the Legion lineup, Lenovo also ventured into the VR segment with a demo of its first ever VR headset. The company has not announced any details of the headset, but it is reported to be priced below $400 (roughly Rs. 27,400) whenever it arrives. The design of the headset is such that the lens rests on your forehead instead of the nose. It uses two 1440x1440 pixels OLED panels for display and is said to be pretty lightweight in comparison to the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive. What's interesting is that the Lenovo VR headset will work with Microsoft's Windows Holographic Program.

Lenovo ahead of CES 2017 also launched the Thinkpad X1 Carbon, Thinkpad X1 Yoga, and the Thinkpad X1 Tablet as well. It also refreshed the Miix series with 12-inch Miix 720 tablet running on Windows 10. The Miix 720 comes with a detachable keyboard and a fold out kickstand for multi-purpose usage. All of these products will hit the market before April.

Dell unveils XPS 13 2-in-1 laptop with Infinity edge display and a 27-inch Ultrathin QHD monitor ahead of CES 2017

With the CES 2017 just round the corner, Dell has unveiled its new XPS 13 convertible, along with a 27-inch ultrathin monitor.

Let's start with the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1, this Windows 10 based convertible is said to be the first 2-in-1 from Dell to sport an InfinityEdge display. The company says, it fits a 13.3-inch display in the frame of an 11-inch laptop - making it the "smallest 13-inch 2-in-1 on the planet".

The convertible laptop's touchscreen display rotates 360-degrees, allowing users to also use it as a tablet. The other major highlight of the hybrid is its battery life, which according to the company will last up to 15 hours on the full-HD display variant - or 9 hours when streaming Netflix content.

The new Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 sports an aluminium body, a carbon fibre palm rest, and bears Corning Gorilla Glass NBT on the display. The hybrid is also compatible with the optional Dell Active Pen stylus. It sports two Waves MaxxAudio Pro tuned speakers, apart from an infrared webcam and a fingerprint reader.

Specifications of the new Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 include a seventh generation Intel Core i5-7Y54 processor (up to 3.2GHz) or an Intel Core i7-7Y75 processor (up to 3.6GHz) - both of which sport an Intel HD Graphics 615 built-in. It comes with 4GB of 1866MHz LPDDR3 RAM, along with options of 8GB or 16GB configurations. The base model ships with a 128GB SATA SSD, though 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB PCIe SSD options are also available. As for ports, it sports a Thunderbolt 3 port, a DisplayPort, USB Type-C 3.1, microSD card reader, and a headset jack. Bluetooth v4.2, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Miracast, and Intel Smart Connect technology complete the connectivity options.

And for the ultrathin monitor, it sports a 27-inch QHD (2560x1440 pixels) display with a 60Hz refresh rate. The company is touting a 178-degree viewing angle, and a 99 percent sRGB colour gamut. It offers a brightness of 400 nits, and sports a USB Type-C port for power delivery, apart from an HDMI 2.0 port, and an audio line-out. Users can opt for an HDR-ready version as well.

For those unaware, Dell launched its XPS 12, XPS 13 laptops in India at Rs 76,990 and Rs 1,24,990. Both Windows 10 laptops support Microsoft features like Cortana and Continuum and are powered by sixth-generation Intel processors. The company also launched a bunch of accessories with the new laptops.

Samsung Announces CH711 Curved Quantum Dot Monitor for Gamers Ahead of CES 2017

Samsung today unveiled a new curved monitor said to be designed for gamers with quantum dot technology. Named the Samsung CH711, the monitor will be officially launched at CES 2017, along with its price and exact availability details.

The Samsung CH711 curved quantum dot monitor will be available in 27-inch and 31.5-inch variants and will be released in early 2017. It features an 1800R radius curvature and a 178-degree viewing angle. Both variants will sport a QHD (2560x1440 pixel) quantum dot panels that are rated to deliver nearly 125 percent sRGB colour gamut coverage.

The monitor can be adjusted both vertically and horizontally, while it can be flipped completely vertical as well - though this might be quite pointless! It sports a three-sided 'Boundless' design, with small bezels on the top and either side. Power and HDMI cables from the monitor are hidden within its neck, giving the configuration a clean look.

At CES 2017, Samsung will also showcase the CFG70 and CF791 curved quantum dot monitors, which were first announced at IFA 2016 in September and released in the US in December. The company will additionally unveil new high-resolution quantum dot monitors at CES 2017, also due to be released in early 2017. These are the 28-inch UH750, as well as the 23.8-inch and 27-inch SH850.

LG K3, K4, K8, K10 (2017), and Stylus 3 Smartphones Launched Ahead of CES 2017

LG ahead of the CES 2017 in Las Vegas has announced four new K-series smartphones, and the new Stylus 3. The South Korean company says that the new LG K3, K4, K8, K10 smartphones, and the Stylus 3 will strengthen its portfolio in the mid-range segment. All the new LG smartphones will be showcased at the CES 2017 event.

LG says that the new mid-range smartphones feature a 120-degree wide-angle front camera lens and rear fingerprint scanner. The company adds that the new 2017 K-series smartphones have been designed with the "the diverse needs of consumers in mind." The company has confirmed that the market availability will be announced locally in the weeks to come.

LG K3

The LG K3 (2017) features a 4.5-inch FWVGA (480x854 pixels) IPS display and sport a 1.1GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 MSM8909 processor coupled with 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of inbuilt storage with expandable storage support up to 32GB via microSD card and Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

LG K3 sports a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and also houses a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, 3G, GPRS/ EDGE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, and Micro-USB. It is backed by a 2100mAh removable battery and will be available in Metallic Titan as well as Pink Gold colours.

LG K4

The LG K4 (2017) features a 5-inch FWVGA (480x854 pixels) display with a pixel density of 196ppi. It is powered by the same processor as the LG K3. The LG K4 packs 1GB of LPDDR3 RAM and comes with 8GB inbuilt storage with expandable storage support via microSD card (up to 32GB).

It sports 5-megapixel front and rear cameras. The handset packs a 2500mAh removable battery and runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Connectivity options on the handset include 4G LTE, 3G, GPRS/ EDGE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b, g, n, Bluetooth 4.1, and Micro-USB. The LG K4 will be available in Titan and Black colours.

LG K8

The LG K8 (2017) features a 5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) display with a pixel density of 294ppi. It is powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 MSM8917 processor coupled with 1.5GB of LPDDR3 RAM. It includes 16GB inbuilt storage and supports expandable storage via microSD card (up to 32GB).

The handset sports a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. It is backed by a 2500mAh removable battery. The LG K8 runs Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, 3G, GPRS/ EDGE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b, g, n, Bluetooth 4.2, Micro-USB, and NFC. It will be available in Silver, Titan, Dark Blue, and Gold colours.

LG K10

The LG K10 (2017) (seen above) features a 5.3-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) display with a pixel density of 277ppi. The handset is powered by an octa-core MediaTek MT6750 processor clocked at 1.5GHz. It comes with 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM and the handset will be available in two storage options - 16GB and 32GB inbuilt. The LG K10 supports expandable storage via microSD card (up to 2TB).

It sports a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. It is backed by a 2800mAh removable battery. The Android 7.0 Nougat-based K10 supports 4G LTE, GPRS/ EDGE, and 3G connectivity options. It will be available in Black, Titan, and Gold colours.

LG Stylus 3

Finally, the LG Stylus 3 features a 5.7-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) display with a pixel density of 258ppi. It is powered by the same processor that powers the LG K10. It packs a 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM and comes with 16GB inbuilt storage. The handset supports expandable storage via microSD card (up to 2TB).

It sports a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera. The handset is backed by a 3200mAh removable battery and it runs on Android 7.0 Nougat. As the name suggests, the LG Stylus 3 supports stylus pen and comes with 4G LTE connectivity feature.

"Our 2017 mass-tier, mid-range smartphones focus on giving our customers a wide variety of options and choices for their smartphone lifestyles. What's consistent in all our K Series and Stylus 3 devices is that they look and feel premium, offer replaceable batteries and all come with expandable memory slots, what customers consider key factors when buying smartphones in this category," Juno Cho, president of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company commented on the launch.

LG Unveils the Thunderbolt Display we're waiting for; along with something for those Google Fanboys

LG on Wednesday unveiled two new 4K monitors catering to two groups of fans. The LG 34-inch 34UM79M monitor comes with Chromecast built-in for all those Google loyalists, and the HDR-capable LG 32-inch 32UD99 4K monitor come with USB Type-C connectivity to help connect with your MacBook laptops easily. Pricing and availability will be detailed at CES 2017.

Beginning with the LG 34UM79M, the 34-inch monitor boasts of a 21:9 UltraWide 4K (exact resolution unspecified) display and is touted to be the world's first Chromecast-enabled multimedia monitor. Apart from streaming movies, TV shows, and games directly onto the monitor, it also allows owners to multitask between the PC and the mobile device using a single screen. Furthermore, the monitor comes with a Dual Controller Plus feature allowing users to control both a PC and a smartphone/tablet via a single keyboard and mouse.

LG has also unveiled the 32-inch 32UD99 UHD 4K (3849x2160 pixels) monitor that supports HDR10 standard. HDR10 enhances brightness levels and brings wide color gamut image to the monitor for superior image quality. As mentioned, the monitor sports USB-C port for ease in connectivity with laptops, especially MacBooks. With the Thunderbolt Displays now discontinued, the new LG monitor could prove to be an ideal alternative. Additionally, the monitor's built-in speakers come with LG's Rich Bass technology for an elevated audio experience.

LG states that both these monitors will be showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2017  in Las Vegas next month. Alongside these display, LG will also showcase the 34-inch 34UC99 21:9 UltraWide gaming monitor equipped with AMD FreeSync technology, 1ms Motion Blur Reduction, Dynamic Action Sync, Black Stabilizer and other features for catering to gamers. CES 2017 is to take commence from January 5 and go on until January 8.
