Samsung Gear S3 Classic, Frontier Launched in India for Rs. 28,500

Samsung belatedly launched its Gear S3 smartwatch, a successor to its Gear S2, in India on Tuesday. The South Korean multinational's smartwatch arrives in two variants - Frontier and Classic. The smartwatch will be available from January 18 across Samsung retail channels and has been priced by the company at Rs. 28,500.

The Samsung Gear S3 smartwatch was initially launched at IFA 2016 by Samsung and runs company's own Tizen OS rather than Google's Android Wear. The Frontier model of Gear S3 sports a rugged design with an MIL-STD-810G rating, while the Classic variant has a more refined look. The cases are made out of high-end watch grade 316L steel, and the company is lauding the rotating bezel that enables users to pick up calls or snooze alarms without even touching the display.

Notably, the Frontier model of Gear S3 comes with a cellular radio chip that allows the smartwatch to connect to high-speed 4G mobile networks. This means that the watch does not require to be tethered to your smartphone in order to connect to the Internet or make calls. This is a feature that is currently not existent even in market-leader Apple's current generation of smartwatches - Apple Watch 2. SOS alerts can be preset to a button, sending alerts to family, friends, and emergency professionals.

The Samsung Gear S3 smartwatch features a 1.3-inch (360x360 pixels) always-on display Super AMOLED tech and Gorilla Glass SR+ protection, IP68 dust and water resistance, built-in GPS, as well as a built-in speaker. It is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor. Apart from 3G/LTE on the Frontier model, the smartwatches sport Bluetooth v4.2, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, and NFC/MST. They are powered by a 380mAh battery.

Samsung recently introduced its iOS specific Samsung Gear S app to expand the support of its Gear S2 and Gear S3 smartwatches to iOS.

Manu Sharma, Vice President, Mobile Business, Samsung India said, "With the Gear S3, we continue to build on our wearables heritage of offering diverse choices to enhance consumers’ unique lifestyles, Gear S2 achieved meaningful progress in the smartwatch category with a personalized watch face and a versatile rotating bezel that provided an intuitive smartwatch experience. Now with the new Gear S3, we expand our Gear collection and introduce not only a great smartwatch, but a great watch. With smart capabilities and sophisticated, elegant design, the Gear S3 marks a significant addition to our smartwatch portfolio."

Samsung Announces CH711 Curved Quantum Dot Monitor for Gamers Ahead of CES 2017

Samsung today unveiled a new curved monitor said to be designed for gamers with quantum dot technology. Named the Samsung CH711, the monitor will be officially launched at CES 2017, along with its price and exact availability details.

The Samsung CH711 curved quantum dot monitor will be available in 27-inch and 31.5-inch variants and will be released in early 2017. It features an 1800R radius curvature and a 178-degree viewing angle. Both variants will sport a QHD (2560x1440 pixel) quantum dot panels that are rated to deliver nearly 125 percent sRGB colour gamut coverage.

The monitor can be adjusted both vertically and horizontally, while it can be flipped completely vertical as well - though this might be quite pointless! It sports a three-sided 'Boundless' design, with small bezels on the top and either side. Power and HDMI cables from the monitor are hidden within its neck, giving the configuration a clean look.

At CES 2017, Samsung will also showcase the CFG70 and CF791 curved quantum dot monitors, which were first announced at IFA 2016 in September and released in the US in December. The company will additionally unveil new high-resolution quantum dot monitors at CES 2017, also due to be released in early 2017. These are the 28-inch UH750, as well as the 23.8-inch and 27-inch SH850.

"Today's multimedia consumers, quite rightly, have high expectations and demand a truly cutting edge, totally immersive experience that realizes the full potential of whatever they are playing or watching. This year's lineup of curved Quantum Dot monitors offers brilliant design, richer colour and deeper contrast than ever before. We can't wait to share them with the world at CES 2017 in Las Vegas," said Seoggi Kim, Senior Vice President of Samsung Electronics' Visual Display Business, announcing the new Samsung CH711 monitor.

IFA 2016: Sennheiser unveils new lineup of HD 2, HD 4 and HD 500 series headphones

Sennheiser has always showed off a fair amount of stuff at IFA. Well why wouldn't they, the show is kind of, in the audio company's backyard (well, only a three hour drive away). The company has almost always unveiled new products at the IFA stage and it’s sticking with tradition in 2016. New Sennheiser headphones have been announced, completely replacing the bulk of their lineup.

HD 4 series

The HD 4 series from Sennheiser are large, closed-backed headphones with “contemporary style.”

The new sets in this range are the HD 4.20s, HD 4.30i and HD 4.30G. Sennheiser claims that these are ideal for mobile devices and that they are light and strong.

All three headsets feature a closed-back design, in-line mic and are foldable. These headsets come in black and white and will be bundled with storage pouches. The 4.30i and G models will come with a 3-button remote for music control on iOS and Android devices respectively.

HD 2 series

The HD 2 series headphones replace the very popular PX 100, PX 200 and HD 200 series from Sennheiser. These are also meant to be convenient and portable and are thus, light and foldable, according to Sennheiser.

These headphones also use a closed design. The HD 2.30i and G models come with a pouch and in-line remote and microphone. The 2.20S model comes with a one-button in-line remote and mic.

HD 500 series

New entrants in the HD 500, premium series include the HD 559, HD 569, HD 579 and HD 599. All of these, except the HD 569, are open-back designs.

Sennheiser claims to have optimised the headset for comfortable listening at home and take advantage of Sennheiser's E.A.R. (Ergonomic Accoustic Refinement) technology.

The HD 569 includes an optional cable with in-line mic and remote for mobile devices.

All the new headphones start shipping this month. Pricing is still unknown at this time.

LG Unveils 3 New Wireless Speakers Set to Launch at IFA 2016

South Korean electronics aggregator LG has teased three new wireless speakers which will be launched at IFA 2016. The LG PH2, PH3, and PH4 are part of the same range as the LG PH1, which has already been launched in India at Rs. 4,490. The new speakers feature interesting designs and features that will help them stand out from other speakers in the market.

"At LG, we seek to develop products that fit the real life needs of consumers," said Brian Kwon, president of the LG Home Entertainment Company. "With our diverse line up of wireless speakers, I am confident consumers will be able to find the perfect audio solution for any setting."

The LG PH2 and PH4 are designed to be used in rugged and outdoor settings. Both feature a water-resistant design, while the PH4 also offers louder sound thanks to its dual-driver set up. The PH3 on the other hand is meant for indoor use, and features a lamp system much like the PH1. All three of the new speakers have fabric coating.

All three speakers have a design that allows for 360-degree omni-directional sound. While the PH3 and PH4 claim to be able to run for 10 hours on a full charge, the PH2 has a claimed battery life of six hours. All of them feature Bluetooth for wireless connectivity, as well as auxiliary 3.5mm sockets for use with stereo cables.

The range is an expansion of the LG PH1, which we reviewed earlier this month. The speaker features interesting lighting features and a compact, attractive design. However, the sound falls a bit short of expectations and we found the PH1 to be a bit overpriced. While LG has not announced pricing for the new products, they are expected to be priced well above that of the PH1.
