BuzzFeed News, Buzzfeed's news site had reportedly been breached by hacker group OurMine. The hackers "vandalized" many of BuzzfeedNews' reports and left messages stating, "Hacked by OurMine team, don’t share fake news about us again, we have your database. Next time it will be public. Don’t f[***] with OurMine again."
The hack was in retaliation to a BuzzFeed story(mirrored here) that exposed an alleged member of OurMine. OurMine denied any connection to the alleged member of the group and seem to have protested by, of all things, hacking BuzzFeed News.
BuzzFeed tried to take down the affected posts "within minutes" and that BuzzFeed was working to restore all stories in their original form.
OurMine's reference to a database might seem menacing, but there's no indication from OurMine or BuzzFeed as to what that database contains. The hacking group OurMine altered several posts on https://t.co/20lNl4QWRf following BuzzFeed News reporting on the group pic.twitter.com/1bYcxZ3QlS— BuzzFeed News (@BuzzFeedNews) October 5, 2016
I found at least one post on the BuzzFeed News site that's still to be purged of OurMine.
Lately, OurMine has been making a name for itself by going around hacking Twitter accounts of prominent celebrities, including those of Mark Zuckerberg, Sundar Pichai, and Jack Dorsey.
