Xiaomi Launches Redmi Note 4 in India Starting Rs. 9,999

Xiaomi launches its Redmi Note 4 smartphone in India in three variants, with the prices starting at Rs. 9,999. The new Xiaomi smartphone will be exclusively available via Flipkart, along with Mi.com. Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 will go on sale in the country starting 12 pm on January 23 in Gold, Grey, and Silver colour variants, with a brand new Matte Black colour variant coming soon.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 has been launched in three variants in India - the 2GB RAM/ 32GB inbuilt storage model has been priced at Rs. 9,999, the 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage model has been priced at Rs. 10,999, while the 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage model has been priced at Rs. 12,999. All three variants will be available starting Monday and guess what, there are no pre-registrations required for the sale.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 sports a metal unibody design and bears a fingerprint sensor on the rear panel. As expected, Xiaomi has chosen to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 MSM8953 octa-core SoC rather than the MediaTek Helio X20 deca-core SoC in its smartphone in the country, coupled with the Adreno 506 GPU. The company is touting the 14nm FinFET architecture of the SoC and its benefits for battery life. Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is also part of the company's Make in India programme.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 runs on MIUI 8 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and sports a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) 2.5D curved glass IPS display with a 401ppi pixel density. Powered by the Snapdragon 625 SoC, it comes with 3GB and 4GB of RAM, depending on the SKU.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4's rear camera bears a 13-megapixel CMOS sensor equipped with PDAF (phase detection autofocus), a f/2.0 aperture, 77-degree wide angle lens, and dual-tone LED flash. The front camera sports a 5-megapixel CMOS sensor, coupled with an 85-degree wide angle lens. Expandable storage is available on the Redmi Note 4 via a hybrid dual-SIM card configuration (Micro+Nano), supporting microSD cards (up to 128GB).

As for connectivity, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 offers 4G with VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/g/b/n, Bluetooth v4.1, GPS, Micro-USB, and Infrared. Sensors on board include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, electronic compass, and proximity sensor. Redmi Note 4 battery capacity is rated at 4100mAh battery.

Xiaomi Mi VR Play Headset Launched at Rs. 999 ; Mi Live App Announced as well

Xiaomi unveiled the Mi VR Play headset in India priced at Rs. 999. The new Mi VR Play headset will be available via the company's store starting December 21. The company has confirmed that there will be limited edition Mi VR Play headsets also going up for sale.

Initially unveiled in China back in August, the Mi VR Play headset features a 'two-way zipper design' that the company claims makes it simple to insert and remove a smartphone into the headset, while also ensuring the phone does not fall out of the headset. Notably, in October, the company launched another plastic-built VR headset.

The Mi VR Play headset is Google Cardboard compatible and also allows users to view 360-degree YouTube videos and Mi Live VR live streams. The headset is also compatible with Google Cardboard Camera app that lets users click VR photos.

The Mi VR Play features Lycra material and comes with dual front openings for slight positioning adjustments and ventilation. The new headset is compatible with smartphones ranging from 4.7-inches to 5.7-inches. Xiaomi claims that the Mi VR Play headset can easily fit Mi Note as well as iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

The headset sports anti-reflective lens for image clarity. The optical-grade aspheric lens has a high tolerance interval of 0.01mm. It also features a textured metal button which when pressed, a silicone button inside makes direct contact with the smartphone. The Mi VR Headset measures 201x107x91mm and weighs 208.7 grams. Xiaomi has also introduced non-slip pads into the VR headset.

Xiaomi also announced Mi Live, a live video streaming app, in India. The new app is now available via Google Play. Announcing the new Mi Live app, the company said, "Mi Live is our own live streaming app with locally sourced content and is open to viewing hosts from across the country."

Xiaomi announces Mi Drone with 1080p and 4K recording; starts from just $380

After a brief tease campaign, Xiaomi unveiled its newest product and sent it up in the sky. It's even cheaper than reported.

One of China's most popular consumer electronics brands, Xiaomi announced its latest product, a drone priced at 2999 yuan ($456) for a model with a 4k camera, and 2499 yuan ($380) for a version with a 1080p camera. Xiaomi says that a pre-orders will begin for the 1080p version today, while a beta version for the 4k version will be given out to select users.

Like other Xiaomi products, the device is priced astonishingly low compared to competitor models. Chinese manufacturer DJI's Phantom 3 drone, for example, sells for $800. The drone isn't actually made by Xiaomi, but it is manufactured by a company that Xiaomi invested in called Flymi.

The drone is said to have a compact lightweight body and it is made of carbon fibre. The on-board camera is a 12MP Sony BSI sensor with 6P lenses along with three-axis image stabilization and support for RAW image capture.

Xiaomi said that the Mi Drone can fly for 27 minutes per session thanks to a 5,100 mAh battery and to a range of 3km. That’s about on par with DJI's drones, which fly for 23-28 minutes depending on the model. It also includes a 360-degree camera that can shoot 1080p/4K video, and handheld remote which has the option of attaching a smartphone for a live-feed view from the drone. The pieces seem to be modular, which means replacing them and the battery is possible.

There’s a bevy of security and usability features, including GPS and visual-based guidance, several autopilot modes, auto-return home when the battery is low or when outside of range, location tracking for easy retrieval, and no-fly-zone avoidance.

Xiaomi has announced that the 1080p model will be "crowdfunded" inside the company's Mi Home app from 26 May 2016, while the 4K drone will be made available for early testing via an open beta program at the end of July. There's no word on when (or whether) it will be sold outside of China.
