OnePlus 3T With Snapdragon 821 SoC, 128GB Storage Option Launched

OnePlus on Tuesday as expected unveiled an upgraded version of the OnePlus 3 – the OnePlus 3T. The only differences between the two smartphones are a faster SoC, increased storage, an improved front camera, and a larger battery. The 64GB model has been priced at GBP 399 (roughly Rs. 33,700), EUR 439 (roughly Rs. 31,200), and USD 439 (roughly Rs. 29,800), while the 128GB model has been priced at GBP 439 (roughly Rs. 37,100), EUR 479 (roughly Rs. 34,800), and USD 479 (roughly Rs. 32,500).

The OnePlus 3T will be available in the US from November 22 and in Europe from November 26. Unlike the OnePlus 3, no details of when the smartphone will be made available in India were revealed at the launch. It will be available in the newer Gunmetal and Soft Gold colour variants, with the latter being made available shortly after launch.

The company also announced that a new OxygenOS build based on Android 7.0 Nougat will be released for the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T at the same time before the end of this year, and going forward, the two smartphones will receive updates simultaneously.

Clearing the differences between the OnePlus 3T and the OnePlus 3 - the newly launched OnePlus 3T sports a faster Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC (two cores clocked at 1.6GHz and two cores clocked at 2.35GHz) in contrast to the Snapdragon 820 SoC on the OnePlus 3. It comes in both 64GB and 128GB storage models, compared to just a 64GB model on the OnePlus 3.

As for the improved front camera, OnePlus has doubled the resolution of the front camera from 8-megapixel on the OnePlus 3 to 16-megapixel on the OnePlus 3T – while also switching sensors from the Sony IMX179 with 1.4-micron pixels to the Samsung 3P8SP with 1-micron pixels. It also gets PDAF autofocus, rather than just a fixed focus setup.

Finally, the OnePlus 3T gets an upgraded 3400mAh battery compared to the 3000mAh offering on the OnePlus 3. It also supports Dash Charge (5V 4A) fast charging technology introduced with the OnePlus 3.

In terms of design both the phones are similar, with the OnePlus 3T bearing the same anodised aluminium metal unibody design, the same fingerprint sensor on the home button, and the same Alert Slider apart from capacitive hardware keys. It also comes with the same USB 2.0 Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It sports a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) Optic AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. The SoC is coupled with 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM.

Connectivity options on the OnePlus 3T include 4G LTE (with support for India's LTE bands), Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, and GPS/ A-GPS. It bears the same measurements as the OnePlus 3 at 152.7x74.7x7.35mm, and the same weight at 158 grams.

OnePlus 3T Name Seemingly Confirmed by Company Website Hours Before Launch

Earlier this month, OnePlus confirmed that it will be launching its next device with Snapdragon 821 processor on November 15. The company's teasers from earlier this week further suggested that it will launch OnePlus 3T smartphone at its event on Tuesday, which kicks off at 11:30pm IST. Now, the company's website has seemingly confirmed the name 'OnePlus 3T' for the smartphone.

The company's website is currently showing the 'error 404' page with a fun little mini-game if you try adjusting the URL by adding '3t' at the end and reach the page "http://oneplus.net/3t" reports Phone Arena. The report notes that this custom error 404 page could not be accessed by any of the other URL adjustments that were tried - I tried as well, and I was also unable to reproduce the special 404 page. This indicates that the smartphone will indeed be named 'OnePlus 3T' and as it is company's official site, the name seems to be all but confirmed.

Earlier leaks have suggested that the OnePlus 3T will come with Sony's latest IMX398 sensor onboard. It is further expected to sport an Optic AMOLED display and run on Android 7.0 Nougat-based OxygenOS. It is expected to house a large 3300mAh battery. The Snapdragon 821 chipset on the smartphone will be paired with 6GB of RAM and the smartphone is tipped to come in storage options of 32GB and 64GB. The OnePlus 3T is expected to be priced at $479 (roughly Rs. 32,100) - $80 more than the OnePlus 3, which is priced at Rs. 27,999 in India.

As all these leaked specifications have not been confirmed by the company, we will have to wait till the official announcement by the company. However, as the launch is scheduled to be later on Tuesday, we will not have to wait long for the confirmation.

Qualcomm Reveals that the OnePlus 3T Will Sport Snapdragon 821 SoC.

Qualcomm may just have confirmed that the OnePlus 3T variant will sport a Snapdragon 821 processor. OnePlus is said to be working on a refined variant of the OnePlus 3, and it was largely rumored to sport Qualcomm's latest processor.

Now, Qualcomm itself has tweeted that another OnePlus smartphone is on the way, and it sports the latest Snapdragon 821 processor. While the chipmaker did not specifically mention that the processor will power the rumored OnePlus 3T, it is the only device that is reportedly 'on the way'. The OnePlus 4 is still months away from launch, and will be revealed sometime mid-next year powered by what's anticipated to be the Snapdragon 830 processor.

Nevertheless, Qualcomm has confirmed that a new OnePlus smartphone is in the offing. The OnePlus 3T was expected to launch in December around Christmas, but recent reports indicate at a November 14 launch.

The OnePlus 3T is expected to be priced at $479 (roughly Rs. 32,100) - $80 more than the OnePlus 3, which is priced at Rs. 27,999 in India. It is expected to run on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat-based OxygenOS version, and sport an Optic AMOLED display. The design of the OnePlus 3T is also expected to be similar to the flagship, with support for Dash Charge embedded as well.

Past leaks suggest a larger 3300mAh battery, 6GB of RAM, as well as 64GB and 128GB built-in storage variants. The company is also tipped to include a 16-megapixel Sony IMX398 sensor for the rear camera, instead of the 16-megapixel Sony IMX298 sensor seen on the OnePlus 3.

OnePlus 3T: Release Date, Price, Specifications; All the Rumors so far!

OnePlus is rumored to launch an upgraded OnePlus 3 variant sometime in December this year. The upgraded variant will sport a new processor and run on the latest version of Android. Now, a fresh leak reveals the expected price of the smartphone as well. Expected to be called the OnePlus 3T, the smartphone has been circulating in the rumor mill, hinting at an expected unveil. OnePlus was recently also reported to have halted production of the OnePlus 3 to focus its efforts on the new variant powered by the upgraded Snapdragon 821 SoC.

The OnePlus 3, on its own, has some great specifications and performs impressively (Review here), and the OnePlus 3T is likely to take that up a notch further. We take a look at all that we know about the OnePlus 3T variant so far, including the expected launch date of the smartphone.

Release Date

The OnePlus 3T is expected to launch in December this year, probably sometime around Christmas. Because of this, the OnePlus 4 launch next year is also rumored to be delayed a bit. While a designer reportedly associated with the firm let out that the upgrade will be called OnePlus 3T, the names OnePlus 3s and OnePlus 3 Plus have also been floating around the Web.

Specifications

As the OnePlus 3T is reportedly an upgrade to the already amazing OnePlus 3, so we don't expect a major specification change. So far, it is rumored to be powered by a Snapdragon 821 processor just like the new Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL devices and will run on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat (which will obviously be based on Oxygen OS).

It will continue to sport an Optic AMOLED display, as CEO Carl Pei recently confirmed that OnePlus will continue to use the same display in the anticipated future. The design of the OnePlus 3T is also expected to be similar to the flagship, with support for Dash Charge embedded as well.

Price

There isn't any price leak associated with the new variant, but knowing the company's business strategy, it will be offering the phone at a reasonable price point. According to noted tipster Evan Blass, the OnePlus 3T will be priced $80 (roughly Rs. 5,400) more than the current OnePlus 3.

The tipster claims that the upgraded smartphone will be priced at $479 (roughly Rs. 32,100). Even with this price bump, the smartphone is still reasonable when compared to the other flagships in the market. Both Apple and Google flagships are priced way higher than the OnePlus 3 and the rumored OnePlus 3T.

While on paper, this isn't much of an upgrade, but OnePlus could announce more during the big unveil, making Christmas merrier. Till then, it is advised you take all speculations with a pinch of salt.
