Sony Cyber-shot HX350 With 50X Optical Zoom Launched in India at Rs. 28,990

Sony last month launched the successor to the Cyber-shot HX300, the Cyber-shot HX350 a super-zoom camera. The company on Monday announced that the camera will be available in India priced at Rs. 28,990. To recall, the camera had been launched in Europe at EUR 449 (roughly Rs. 32,600).

As noted during the launch not much seems to have changed in the new Sony Cyber-shot HX350. The camera features a back-illuminated 20.4-megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor and an up-to-date BIONZ X image processor. The ISO range is rated at ISO 80-3200, which can be expanded to 12800 in multi-frame NR mode. A focal length of 24mm at the wide end and 1200mm at the telephoto end (35mm equivalent) can be achieved while the available aperture is f/2.8-6.3. This provides you with a 50x optical zoom, which makes it ideal for wildlife photography or for shooting distant objects.

The Sony Cyber-shot HX350 features handy features like a manual ring for smooth adjustment of zoom and focus, plus an easily-accessible mode dial and custom button for quick adjustment of settings. It also has full PASM controls. The camera is capable of 10fps burst shooting and can record video up to 1080p at 60fps. There's also a tiltable 3-inch LCD display with a 921k-dot resolution but sadly, it likes connectivity options like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or NFC on board.

It uses a USB 2.0 for interfacing with a PC for transferring content over and Micro-HDMI port for viewing the content you've shot directly on an HDTV. It doesn't have any microphone or headphone socket present.

In order to prevent camera shake, the Cyber-shot HX350 retains the optical SteadyShot feature which helps keep the video steady. The inbuilt Intelligent Active Mode keeps full-HD videos sharp and blur-free with Sony's proprietary frame analysis technology.

For specifications, not much has changed in the new HX350. The camera features a back-illuminated 20.4-megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor and an up-to-date BIONZ X image processor. The ISO range is rated at ISO 80-3200, which can be expanded to 12800 in multi-frame NR mode. You get a focal length of 24mm at the wide end and 1200mm at the telephoto end (35mm equivalent) while the available aperture is f/2.8-6.3 which lets you achieve 50x optical zoom.

Sony Cyber-shot RX100 V Premium Compact Camera Launched at Rs. 79,990

Sony announced the Cyber-shot RX100 V about a month back and finally today, you can pick one up officially in India for Rs. 79,990. The camera is said to be available at all Sony stores and major retail outlets across India.

The Cyber-shot RX100 V is the successor to the RX100 IV, which launched in India last year. One of the most distinguished changes in this camera is its autofocus system, which gets an adrenaline boost with 315 PDAF points that cover 65 percent of the sensor, for improved focus tracking.

This hybrid focusing system of PDAF and contrast detection AF system allows the RX100 V to lock on focus in just 0.05 seconds. Processing speeds also get an upgrade thanks to the front-end LSI chips which works alongside the Bionz X image processor which now delivers a crazy 24fps burst shooting at 20.1-megapixel resolution. Video capabilities include 4K video recording as well as slow-motion video at up to 960fps.

The camera features a 1-inch CMOS sensor with a 20.1-megapixel resolution. The dimensions are pretty much identical to its predecessor and so is the weight, which is roughly 299 grams. The body is built from aluminum so it's fairly sturdy and should be able to withstand a couple of knocks. You get a 3-inch LCD display which can flip upwards or downwards.

The camera also features Wi-Fi and NFC and is compatible with the company's Play Memories app for Android and iOS. Using this, one can quickly transfer the pictures to their smart device for sharing on-the-go or use their smartphone as a remote viewfinder.

Sony Launches a6500 and Cyber-Shot RX100 V Premium Cameras

Sony has updated two of its most popular camera series with new models, the a6500 and the Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 V aka the RX100 V. The a6500 is the follow up to the Sony's flagship APS-C camera a6300, which now gets 5-axis optical image stabilisation, touch screen and faster processing. All this for $1,400 (approximately Rs. 93,500) for the body-only, shipping in November.

The Sony RX100 V is the new flagship compact premium camera which boasts of PDAF and new front-end LSI chip for better processing speeds. It will be available for $1,000 (approximately Rs. 66,800) when it goes on sale this month.

Sony had already set the bar pretty high with the a6300 for an APS-C interchangeable lens mirrorless camera, and the a6500 builds on that success. The A6500 borrows many of the features we’ve already tested on the A6300 like the 24.2-megapixel CMOS sensor, 425 PDAF points, 11fps burst shooting, 4K video and features like silent shooting, Eye-AF, etc.

It now has an improved larger buffer, which now lets you shoot up to 307 frames. Reviewing the images you've shot in burst mode will now be quicker due to the front-end LSI chip which speeds up processing times.

However, the biggest features added are the 5-axis image stabilisation and a touchscreen LCD. While Sony's SteadyShot stabilisation in the lenses does a decent job, it's no match for proper in-body stabilisation. The 5-axis stabilisation makes its way for the first time to Sony's APS-C cameras and claims to offer a compensation equivalent to using a 5-stop faster shutter speed. This works with all E-mount and A-mount lenses (via an adapter). The touchscreen on the Sony a6500 allows for additional tricks like pulling the focus by simply dragging your finger across the screen.

Now coming to the RX100 V! It is the follow-up to the RX100 IV, which launched in India last year. The biggest change here is the autofocus system, which gets an adrenaline boost with 315 PDAF points that cover 65 percent of the sensor, for improved focus tracking. Processing speeds also get an upgrade thanks to the front-end LSI chips which work along with the Bionz X image processor which now delivers a whopping 24fps burst shooting at 20.1-megapixel resolution.

Video capabilities include 4K video recording as well as slow-motion video at up to 960fps, similar to what had been seen in the RX10 III. Other features on the Sony RX100 V include a new 1-inch stacked CMOS sensor, 24-70mm f/1.8-2.8 lens, 3x optical zoom, 3-inch tilting LCD (non-touch) and Wi-Fi and NFC.

Sony FDR-X3000 and HDR-AS300 Action Cameras Launched

Sony has announced two new video cameras which offer advanced image stabilisation developed by the company. The Sony FDR-X3000 and HDR-AS300 are priced starting at $400 (roughly Rs. 26,800) and $300 (roughly Rs. 20,100).

 The big difference between the two cameras is that the Sony FDR-X3000 supports 4K UHD video, while the Sony HDR-AS300 only supports full-HD recording. Sony highlights the big talking point of the new action cameras to be the image stabilisation feature called Balanced Optical SteadyShot (B.O.SS). The camera and the lens are fused in a way that they move together for a more smooth result. Sony claims that footage shot on the FDR-X3000 and HDR-AS300 will be smooth irrespective of handheld shooting, even while you are running or cycling.

The company is also launching a new live remote unit that becomes the viewfinder while capturing footage. As compared to previous generations, the live view remote is 30 percent smaller making it more compact and portable. Sony is also bundling a watch strap to enable wearing it on the wrist. As for the price, the Sony FDR-X3000 will be sold at $400 (roughly Rs. 26,800), and the live view remote variant called the FDR-X3000R will be sold separately at $550 (roughly Rs. 36,800). The Sony HDR-AS300 is priced at $300 (roughly Rs. 20,100), and the live view remote variant called Sony HDR-AS300R will be priced at $450 (roughly Rs. 30,100).

Sony will first sell the two action cameras in North America starting late September, and there's no word yet on India launch date and price.

As for the specifications, both the FDR-X3000 and HDR-AS300 include a Sony Exmore R CMOS sensor and a BIONZ X image processor. The 4K Sony FDR-X3000 captures video at 100Mbps, and can shoot 120fps video in 1080p. The Sony HDR-AS300 captures video in 1080p at 50Mbps, and shoots 120fps video in 720p. There's an additional underwater housing bundled with the cameras that makes them splash proof and waterproof for up to 60 metres.
