Instagram Finally Arrives on Windows 10 Desktops, Tablets

Instagram has finally arrived to the Windows 10 desktop and tablet. To recollect, Instagram first made its way to Windows 10 Mobile platform although it was limited to just the mobile users. Users can now download Instagram for Windows 10 PCs from the company's Windows App Store.

Similar to the mobile version of the app, Instagram for Windows 10 tablets will allow users to capture, edit, and share directly from the device. However, the Windows 10 devices should pack a camera to click images.

"Keep in mind that other devices running Windows 10 may not support certain features, like the ability to capture and upload photos and videos," the Windows App Store listing of Instagram notes. The app also includes all of the popular features including Instagram Stories, Direct, and Explore.

Back in April, Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram apps arrived together on the Windows platform. Instagram arrived for Windows 10 Mobile in April and is finally making its way to the Windows 10 desktop and tablets. Unfortunately, Instagram is still not "tailored" for iPads and users have to download a tweaked version of iPhone app.

"Today [Thursday], we're excited to expand to more of the Windows community by bringing Instagram to tablets running Windows 10," the Instagram team said in a blog post while announcing the availability for Windows 10 desktops and tablets.

Instagram in August crossed 1 billion downloads on Google Play and was the nineteenth app to do so on the Android platform. The app joined the likes of other popular apps from Facebook such as WhatsApp, Facebook, and Messenger. The image sharing platform already has a user base of 500 million monthly users.

Here's how to view Instagram stories on desktop using your Chrome Browser?

Photo-sharing app Instagram recently launched its 'Stories' feature to take on rival Snapchat.

What is Stories?

Stories is essentially a feature provided by Instagram that allows its users to post pictures and videos that automatically disappear after 24 hours similar to what's offered by Snapchat. While that's works for Instagram's mobile apps, those of you who use Instagram on desktop may have noticed that this feature has not shown up on Instagram's website.

But don't you worry, as there is an easy solution for this. If you use Google Chrome (which a majority of you use), it's easy to view Instagram stories on desktop using a simple Chrome extension.
Called Chrome IG Story, this extension injects your friend's Instagram Stories above your feed on Instagram.com desktop website, just like they appear in the mobile app. Here's how to use Chrome IG Story to view Instagram stories on desktop:

1. Install the Chrome IG Story extension from the Chrome Web Store.

2. Once the extension is installed, you'll see its icon show up besides the icons of other extensions.

3. Now go over to Instagram.com website from the desktop and check your profile. You should now be able to see the Instagram Stories that appear on your mobile app, on the top of your Instagram feed.

4. You can use the arrow keys to navigate forward and back, and press the Esc key to close the gallery. You can also right click the icon of an Instagram user to download their Story.

The advantage of Chrome IG Story is that it provides a hassle free way to enable Instagram's Stories functionality on the photo-sharing service's desktop app.

Furthermore, it's worth noting that even though this allows you to view the Instagram stories, it does not mark them as 'seen'. So the person who has posted the Story won't know that their story has been viewed. So Enjoy it!
