Windows 10 Build 14342 was supposed to be released two days ago for beta testers, but it seems that it appeared one day before on some users’ PCs. After making this mistake, Microsoft kept on pushing this build to its customers.
On Tuesday, Gabriel Aul, engineering general manager for Operating System Group at Microsoft has tweeted that “Some #WindowsInsiders have reported getting PC build 14342. We were staging this for tomorrow and looks like it published too far,” and after a few minutes, he returned with another tweet, saying that “I think we’ll just keep pushing out, but it may not be fully staged yet.”
Users who signed up for the Windows Insider program have access to the upcoming features and test them in their early stages, and without a doubt, build 14342 comes with some important changes. Aul has specified that on Microsoft’s blog that “Instead of extracting and loading extensions from a local folder, all available extensions can now be downloaded directly from the Windows Store.”
Users have been anxiously waiting for Edge add-ons to be introduced in Windows 10 and they were expected to reach the Insider testers last year, but due to some problems, their introduction has been delayed until March 2016. During this time, users downloaded them from Microsoft’s servers, but from now on add-ons will continue to be found on the Windows Store.
In build 14342 was removed a controversial feature of Windows 10, Wi-Fi Sense, which according to Aul, it “allows you to share Wi-Fi networks with your contacts and to be automatically connected to networks shared by your contacts.” This decision was made because security professionals and regular users were concerned that shared passwords stored on PC were not very safe from hackers. “The cost of updating the code to keep this feature working combined with low usage and low demand made this not worth further investment,” has added Aul.
