Not all Samsung Galaxy devices had Marshmallow rolled out to them at once. In fact, there were different release dates for every product under the Galaxy brand. In the case of the Galaxy Note 5, it wasn’t included in the official release statement of Samsung detailing which devices will get Android 6.0 and when. Instead, Samsung first released Marshmallow to Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. However, the company did state they would make announcements as to when Marshmallow would be rolled out to other Galaxy devices.
Well, the Galaxy Note 5 was indeed one of the devices chosen to receive a Marshmallow upgrade. Cambodia was one of the first countries that reported getting Marshmallow when it finally rolled out. The build deployed was the latest Android 6.0.1 which features a couple of small changes and bug fixes, and these include 200 new emojis, quick launch camera and volume controls.
Just like other Android updates, Marshmallow wasn’t instantaneously deployed to all Galaxy Note 5 devices at once. It was a gradual process that involved having some users wait just a little bit longer.
Korea was also included in the Marshmallow rollout with both LG Uplus and SK Telecom providing the update for their users. Just like users in Cambodia, Korean Note 5 users also got the Android 6.0.1 version.
Other countries around the world have also received the Marshmallow update, including:
- Algeria
- Egypt
- Iran
- Israel
- Libya
- Morocco
- Tunisia
- United Arab Emirates
- Saudi Arabia
- South Africa
In India, those who own SM-N920G phones were provided with a Marshmallow update.
Sprint was one of the few carriers in the United States to offer Android 6.0.1 updates for their customers. The download was rather large, more than 1 GB in size.
Another US carrier that has rolled out Marshmallow for customers is Verizon. However, the company made certain changes to the updates for Galaxy Note 5. This was to be expected as no new rollout is completely error free; some apps might not even work when a phone is upgraded to a new OS version. Among the problems fixed by Verizon include:
- trouble with internet connection
- frequent disconnection of data
- problem loading files or web pages
Bell and Telus subscribers in Canada with Galaxy Note 5 also got their updates.
Android updates are tricky as each carrier still needs to test out the new OS before deploying it to their customers’ phones. Sometimes, this can even take weeks. Patience is definitely a virtue in the world of Android updates.
